The School Committee voted unanimously 5-0 to name Dr. Frank Tiano, the interim middle school principal at the Dover-Sherburn Public School in Norfolk County as the newest head of the Ludlow School District, officials announced.

Tiano beat out a group of three other prominent educators who are currently in various positions throughout Massachusetts school districts, including administrators and other superintendents.

The School Committee reviewed dozens of applications before narrowing the field to the final four. The final interviews were conducted last week and Tiano was named the superintendent at the latest meeting of the Committee.

Tiano got his start in the classroom in 1990 as a teacher and assistant principal in Nashua, New Hampshire, where he spent several years before heading to the Chelmsford School District in Massachusetts in 2000.

There, Tiano worked as a Task Force Member of the School Threat Assessment and Response System (STARS). In 2006, Frank earned his Doctor of Education in Leadership and Schooling from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

In 2021, Tiano became the interim Middle School Principal at the Dover-Sherborn School District before announcing his intentions to head to Ludlow this summer.

Tiano is expected to start as of Friday, July 1, replacing current interim Superintendent Lisa Nemeth, who will remain in her position through the remainder of the school year.

Nemeth took over for former Superintendent Todd Gaza, who opted out of his contract after nine years and accepted a position of executive director of the Collaborative for Educational Services in Northampton last summer.
